What Happened To Gentle Kindness?

In an attempt to avoid the news, and since I do enjoy 90 degree days, I decided to take several walks or just sit on the porch. When I went inside, I opted to stick with Amazon Prime Video and completely avoided turning on the cable box.

There was an enticement for Starz at .99 a month for I think it was 2 months, so I figured what the hell, maybe I’ll re-watch American Gods.

But I didn’t. I came across the movie, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.“ I am glad I did.

It was well written, well acted, and an enjoyable momentary escape from the stress and anxiety that is filling many of our lives. After watching, I had this weird thought —

What would the world would be like if there were more people like Fred Rogers?

Kind, compassionate, empathetic, sympathetic, caring and gentle.

Somewhere along the way, it has become almost admirable to emulate those who claim to be strong and free individuals, to stop caring for and about others. To attain wealth or status, we must be cutthroat. To stand-tall, we must knock others down.

I wonder if the world would be a better place if we placed more of an emphasis on simply being kind and caring and gentle than on beating and berating and bullying?

I don’t know. Probably just the silly thoughts of an aging wanna be writer who’s ability to craft a story has abandoned him — and greatly humbled him.

With all that said, my nightly prayer is contained within the below photo.

Be well and safe my friends.

Joe
